
LWF/DWS Kenya has been coordinating emergency relief, recovery and rehabilitation operations in Kenya since 1992 with the establishment of Kakuma Refugee Camp (KRC). The organisation is managing the Kakuma Refugee Camp and serves as the lead implementing agency under a tripartite agreement with the UNHCR and the Government of kenya.
The Kenya program was expanded in 1999 to include assistance to the host community around KRC in Turkana District, providing relief food, nutrition, education, emergency and recovery needs in animal health care, water development and community health.
Peace Building and Conflict ResolutionTurkana project conducts workshops and trainings for peace and security committee members in the host community areas Adakar (grazing groups),village based peace committee members and conduct cross border peace meetings and visits to community leaders to/ from Uganda and Sudan. In 2010 the project will focus on establishing women peace forum to strengthen the community co-existence.
